Overview

One of the most important services we provide is helping our clients become smarter by transforming their data, through our enabling technology, into business intelligence. One example of this is our business intelligence portal, Proxim-IT™ (pronounced ’proximity‘), which collects, aggregates, displays, and delivers operational, financial, and organizational information, securely via the internet, to any computer, phone, or PDA.

Balanced Scorecard Design

This service is used to chart the financial performance of an organization and is essential for its success. Even nonprofit organizations must deal in a sensible way with funds they receive. However, adopting a purely financial approach for managing an organization’s performance suffers from at least two drawbacks. One is that it provides only a historical perspective, which tells us what happened, but may not tell us what is currently happening or what will happen with future business performance.

  

The other is that most financial measures do not consider a company’s intangible assets. It is common for the current market value of a company’s intangible assets to exceed the market value of its tangible assets. But the notion of measuring the value of a company’s intangible assets is not a commonly accepted financial reporting method.

   

The balanced scorecard method is a more strategic performance management system that enables organizations to translate a company’s vision and strategy into execution, typically working from four unique perspectives:

  1. Financial perspective;
  2. Customer perspective;
  3. Business process or operational perspective; and
  4. Learning and growth perspective.

In a typical engagement we tend to focus on driving business process and operational effectiveness, which allows present performance to be monitored, but the balanced scorecard also tries to capture how well the organization is positioned for the future state.
