BREAKING NEW TRAINING GROUND USC Consulting Group Launches New Interactive Blended Learning Solution
CHICAGO
-- Training employees quickly, efficiently
and regularly is a constant management challenge.
It often requires pulling key personnel out
of the work environment for days of seminars
or asking them to assimilate new information
outside of normal working hours. And, finding
qualified trainers is nearly as insurmountable
an obstacle as scheduling and conducting the
training itself particularly across
multiple locations.
Recognizing the critical impact these difficulties have
on a companys bottom line, USC Consulting Group has
developed a unique blended learning solution specifically
designed to address the issues of time, place and instructor
resources.
M-AblerSM (a contraction
of methodology enabler) is an integrated learning system
that draws on the best of technology and human interaction
to deliver instructional content that is as easy to access
as it is to assimilate. It is an interactive just-in-time
approach that gives employees information they need at
the time and in the place they need it for the job they
are doing.
This product is for any company that wants to initiate a new, or accelerate
an ongoing, training effort, said George Coffey, USCCG senior vice president
and business development executive. Unlike a lot of computer and web-based
training programs, M-Abler is simple and it works.
At USCCG, blended learning means using distance learning
modules to bring students to a base level of conceptual
knowledge and using on-site instructors to relate the information
to real work situations. It allows for on-the-job skill
assessment that is not generally available through other
methods.
There can be dramatically different benefits using a blended learning solution, explains
Jim Ostrosky, USCCG senior vice president, technology and new product development, versus
traditional classroom, computer- or web-based training. For example, we have
developed a train-the-trainer approach that uses a combination of USCCG and client
trainers. This ensures that our clients will have a staff of in-house resources
to handle long-term training needs, while the distance learning modules make
sure that everyone is getting a consistent message, regardless of where they
may be located or the individual skill and experience levels of the in-house
trainers. USCCG employs a secure, interactive web conferencing service,
for simultaneous training at multiple locations. Multi-site training can also
be done via a companys intranet.
The initial offering in the M-AblerSM series
is a comprehensive Lean Operations course that includes
17 individual modules ranging from the Six Pillars of Lean
Production Systems, Continuous Flow and Plant Layout, to
Mapping the Value Stream, Lean Procurement and the Supply
Chain. Each segment requires about one hour to complete
and includes two hands-on exercises that can be tailored
to an employees actual proficiency level.
This course will soon be supplemented with additional options
(such as Six Sigma), which offer the best methodologies
and USCCG approaches to a variety of operational problems
and opportunities.
